India’s representation at the 19th Asian Games involves a formidable 33-member shooting contingent. What is the women’s reservation bill?
- The women’s reservation bill seeks to reserve 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women.
- According to the bill, one-third of the total number of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be reserved for women from those groups. These reserved seats may be allotted by rotation to different constituencies in the state or union territory.
- Despite being a crucial step towards gender parity and inclusive governance, the bill has remained in legislative limbo for far too long. While the bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010, it was not tabled in the Lower House of Parliament until today.
- The bill says that the reservation of seats for women shall cease to exist 15 years after the commencement of the amendment act.

Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship introduces Skill India Digital, a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
Its primary objective is to consolidate multiple government initiatives related to skill development, education, employment, and entrepreneurship onto one platform.
Skill India Digital features an easy-to-use interface designed to work on various devices.
The platform supports multiple Indian languages to ensure accessibility for a wide range of users.
Users can create digital CVs (resumes) with personalized QR codes, making it convenient for potential employers or partners to access their information.
Secure access to the platform requires Aadhaar-based eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer), enhancing user verification and data security.

Nipah virus is a highly dangerous pathogen that causes brain damage and spreads to humans when they come into direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected bats, pigs, or individuals. It was initially recognized in 1999 amid an outbreak of sickness that primarily affected pig farmers and those in close proximity to pigs in Malaysia and Singapore.
Kerala, especially the Kozhikode and Malappuram districts have been particularly vulnerable to the Nipah virus as the areas have seen outbreaks in 2018 and 2021. As of now, there is no treatment or vaccine against the Nipah virus and as per the World Health Organisation (WHO), the infection has a high fatality rate of 73%.

A powerful earthquake that struck Morocco late Friday night killed at least 2,122 people, the country’s Interior Ministry said. More than 1400 people are critically injured. Morocco’s government said that 2,000 died and 2,421 were injured after a powerful quake, more than doubling the earlier toll.
The International Federation for Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has released over $1 million from its emergency disaster fund to support the Moroccan Red Crescent’s work on the ground.

The ministry of education, the ministry of skill development & entrepreneurship, and Meta(formerly Facebook) jointly unveiled an initiative titled “Education to Entrepreneurship: Empowering Students, Educators and Entrepreneurs.”
The initiative’s primary goal is to nature this expedition and motivate young individuals to turn their educational groundwork into flourishing enterprises. Meta unveiled this endeavor in partnership with both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

The Reliance Foundation opens scholarship applications to award 5000 first year UG students
The scholarship seeks to provide a grant of up to Rs 2 lakh and an opportunity to be part of an enabling support system and a vibrant alumni network.
Students in the first-year of their UG programmes in the academic session 2023-24 studying in any branch can apply to avail this scholarship by October 15.

President Droupadi Murmu bestowed prestigious National Teachers’ Award for the year 2023 upon 75 deserving recipients.

The government has formed a committee to explore the possibility of ‘One Nation One Election’ ahead of upcoming elections. The group’s main objective is to investigate the feasibility of implementing “One Nation One Election”, a concept heavily advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The central government, the country’s main authority, has decided that students will now have the opportunity to sit for board exams two times a year. They made this decision because of the advice given in the National Education Policy (NEP), a set of essential ideas about education.

- Stream Flexibility: Students can choose their streams in classes 11 and 12.
