India, Australia sign Amended MoU to increase cooperation in Civil Space Activities

Australian Space Agency & Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) signed an Amendment of the ‘2012 India – Australia Inter-Governmental MoU for cooperation in Civil Space Science, Technology and Education’ for enhancing cooperation between the two countries in Civil Space Activities. The Agreement for Amendment is signed by Dr. K. Sivan, Chairman, ISRO/ Secretary, Department of Space & Mr. Enrico Palermo, Head, Australian Space Agency during the Virtual meeting.


PM Narendra Modi lays Foundation Stone for Maharaja Suheldev Memorial in Bahraich, UP

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for Construction of Statue & Memorial for Maharaja Suheldev at Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh (UP). He also laid the foundation stone for development works around the Chittaura Lake in Bahraich, UP. The works are aimed at improving the Tourism sector in the area. The event marked the 112th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Maharaja Suheldev

Amazon India to begin its 1st Manufacturing Line in India at Chennai

Amazon India announced that it will begin its 1st Device Manufacturing Line in India for production of electronic devices at Chennai by the end of 2021. It has collaborated with Contract Manufacturer Cloud Network Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn for the manufacturing process. To begin with, Amazon will start manufacturing Amazon Fire TV sticks from India. Amazon’s announcement came after a virtual meeting between Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Amit Agarwal, Head of Amazon India & Amazon’s Global Senior Vice-President.

India Joined Naval Exercise ‘Iran-Russia Maritime Security Belt 2021’

i.The Indian Navy has joined Iran and Russia and Participated in two-day long navy exercise “Iran-Russia Maritime Security Belt 2021” on February 17-18, 2021 which was held in the northern part of the Indian Ocean. India’s participation represented a message of “peace and friendship for neighboring and regional countries”.
ii.The exercise saw the participation of forces and vessels from the navy divisions of both the Iranian army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) along with a Russian destroyer, logistics ship and a helicopter were to participate in the drill.


India’s Growth to Rebound in FY22 at 10%: S&P

S&P (Standard & Poors) Global Ratings released a report titled, ‘Cross-Sector Outlook: India’s Escape From Covid’, where it estimated that India will have an economic recovery at 10% in FY22, on a lower base. Earlier, it had revised India’s Real GDP Forecast for FY21 to -7.7%(contract by 7%) from -9%.

RBI issues draft guidelines on Credit Default Swaps

i.Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the Draft Reserve Bank of India (Credit Derivatives) Directions, 2021 in exercise of the powers conferred under section 45W of the RBI Act 1934 read with section 45U.
ii.The guidelines are for allowing derivatives trading in the credit default swaps (CDS) in over-the-counter (OTC) markets and on recognised stock exchanges in the country.
iii.RBI invited comments on the Draft Directions by March 15, 2021.

RBI permits Residents to Make Remittances to IFSCs under LRS

i.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) permitted resident individuals to make remittances under Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) to International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) set up in India under the Special Economic Zone Act, 2005. In this regard, Authorized Dealer (AD) Category 1 Banks allow resident individuals to make these remittances subject to the following conditions:


South Africa’s Faf du Plessis Announces Retirement from Test Cricket

Former South African Captain & Batsman Francois ‘Faf’ du Plessis announced Retirement from Test Cricket format of the game. He is the only South African Captain to lead his team to a Test Series victory over Australia in both home (South Africa) & Away (Australia). The 36-year-old has played 69 Tests for South Africa & captained the team in 36 Tests. Faf has scored 4, 163 runs at an average of 40.02 which includes 10 Centuries 21 Half Centuries. Faf du Plessis will be playing in Limited over formats of the game like One Day Internationals (ODIs) & Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He made his Test debut against Australia in 2012.

Dr. Kiran Bedi Removed as Puducherry LG; Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan Given Additional Charge

Dr. Kiran Bedi was removed from the post of Puducherry Lieutenant Governor(LG). While, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana, was given additional charge as LG of Puducherry. Her appointment is effective from the date she assumes charge of her office.

S Theodore Baskaran Honoured with Sanctuary Lifetime Service Award 2020

S Theodore Baskaran, Conservation writer, historian, naturalist and veteran activist was honoured with the Sanctuary Lifetime Service Award 2020 by the Sanctuary Nature Foundation. The Sanctuary Wildlife Service Awards 2020 were presented over a virtual ceremony.
He has been honoured for his contribution towards wildlife conservation and for his legacy of writing in Tamil and English which contributes towards the discussions on conservation.

AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Received the SKOCH Challenger Award – Chief Minister of the Year Award

i.YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister(CM) of Andhra Pradesh(AP) received the SKOCH Chief Minister of the Year Award.
ii.The award of the SKOCH Group was presented to him by Sameer Kochhar, Chairman of SKOCH Group at the Camp office of CM at Tadepalli, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
iii.The SKOCH CM of the year Award was given to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy based on the year long study on the government project- level outcomes across different states of India.
iv.The efforts of the government of AP to make efficient and transparent governance was evident in the study of 123 projects from various sectors in Andhra Pradesh.
