With 1% of World’s Vehicles, India accounts for 11% of Global deaths in Road Accidents: World Bank report

According to the report ‘Traffic Crash Injuries and Disabilities:The Burden on Indian Society’ released by the World Bank with 1% of World’s vehicles, India accounts for 11% of Global Road Accident deaths & 6% of total road crashes.
i.In India, annually around 4.5 Lakh road crashes take place out of which 1.5 Lakh people die.
ii.The World Bank report was prepared in association with Save LIFE Foundation (SLF).
iii.Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs) is the 8th leading cause of death globally.

Agri Minister Narendra Singh Tomar: India Contributes Around 24% To Global Pulses Output

Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare virtually addressed the International conference “Global virtual Ceremony” in Rome on World Pulses Day.
He stated that India has contributed to around 24% of the global pulses production. The pulses production of India has increased to 240 lakh tonne which was around 140 lakh tonne in the past 6 years.


Kerala hosted 2nd International Conference on Gender Equality as its 1st Carbon Neutral Event in Kozhikode

i.The 2nd edition of International Conference on Gender Equality (ICGE II) was held at the Gender Park Campus in Kozhikode, Kerala on February 11-13, 2021, which was inaugurated by the Kerala Chief Minister (CM) Pinarayi Vijayan. He also announced the functional launch of Gender Park Campus on February 14, 2021.
ii.The conference was hosted by the Gender Park in association with United Nations (UN) Women on the theme “Gender in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Social Business: The Mediating Role of Empowerment”.
iii.The event saw the participation of 90 internationally renowned speakers from over 20 countries.
iv.It was also attended by KK Shailaja, Minister of Health, Social Justice and Women and Child Development of the Government of Kerala.

NeGPA: The Mission of Digital Agriculture

i.National e-Governance Plan in Agriculture (NeGPA) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme initiated in 2010-11 as a pilot project in 7 India states viz. Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh. It was then extended for all the remaining States and 2 UTs in 2014-15 for a period of 5 years. Now, this 5 year period was extended up to March 31, 2021.
ii.The aim of the scheme is to provide timely access to agriculture related information to the farmers through Information & Communication Technology (ICT).

2nd Phase of Vigyan Jyoti Programme Commenced

i.The second phase of Vigyan Jyoti programme has been commenced on the occasion of International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2021.
ii.This phase will cover 50 more districts in addition to the existing 50 districts across India.
iiiThe programme encourages girls to nurture their interest in science and build a career in Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

IETO Signs MoU with Govt of Karnataka for SDGs

i.The Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) and the Government of Karnataka signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) at Bengaluru, Karnataka to work closely to implement the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) more effectively in the state and to expand the scope of the sustainable future.
ii.Purpose: To implement SDG more effectively in the State
iii.Dr Asif Iqbal, President of IETO and Ms Shalini Rajneesh (IAS), Principal Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka signed the MoU.

MSDE launches Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship 2021-23

Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched a Two-year Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) 2021-23 programme during the event ‘Transforming Skilling through Strategic partnerships under SANKALP’. MGNF will be a certificate program in Public Policy and Management offered by IIMs. The fellowship has been rolled out under the World Bank loan assisted programme SANKALP (Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion) and will be hosted by the 9 IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management). MSDE will implement the fellowship in collaboration with State Skill Development Missions (SSDMs).

Delhi-Dehradun Expressway to feature India’s 1st & Asia’s largest 12 Km Wildlife Protection Corridor

i.The upcoming 210 kilometres long Delhi-Dehradun Expressway (Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Economic corridor) is all set to become India’s first highway with 12 km long elevated corridor for the protection of wildlife as it will pass through pristine forest areas. It will also be Asia’s largest wildlife corridor.
ii.The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
iii.Notably, this expressway will reduce the distance between the two cities from 235 km to 210 km, and travel time from the current 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours i.e reduction of 4 hours.

RBI Tightens Norms for Investments in NBFCs from 17 Non-FATF Countries

i.The 17 countries (or jurisdictions) flagged by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) under its publications of ” High-risk jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action “, and “jurisdictions under Increased Monitoring” will face restrictions on the fresh investments in India’s Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs).
ii.The restrictions put in force by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will not treat the FATF-flagged countries at par with the compliant jurisdictions.
iii.Countries under High-risk jurisdictions subject to a Call for Action:
Albania, Barbados, Botswana, Cambodia, Ghana, Jamaica, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Syria, Uganda, Yemen, and Zimbabwe


India’s Rishabh Pant & South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail Won ICC Player of the Month for January 2021

Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant won the The International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Player of the Month award for January 2021 and South African cricketer Shabnim Ismail won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for January 2021. ii.The Gopan Department, Govt of Uttarakhand and the National Informatics Centre, Uttarakhand State Unit won the award of Excellence for the initiating the e-Cabinet (e-Mantrimandal), an initiative in the field of e-governance.
iii.CSI SIG EGovernance Awards is a series of awards instituted by the Computer Society of India (CSI) to recognise the contributions towards e-governance by the State, Departments, Districts and Project level.
