India-US conducts 11th Defence Technology & Trade Initiative Group meeting
The 11thDefence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) Group meeting between India and the United States (US) was held virtually. It was the 2nd meeting of DTTI held in 2021.
The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary (Defence Production) Raj Kumar from Ministry of Defence & Under Secretary of Defence for Acquisition and Sustainment along with Gregory Kausner from US Department of Defence. The DTTI Group meetings are usually held two times in a year, alternating between India and the US.
To bring bilateral defence trade relationship and create opportunities for co-production and co-development of defence equipment.
Note – In September 2020, under DTTI the first Project Agreement for Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) under the Joint Working Group Air Systems was signed.

India Retains 10th Rank on Climate Change Performance Index 2022; Denmark at 4th
India has retained its spot in the top 10 best-performing countries (for the third year after 2020, 2021) and ranked 10th in the global Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2022, which was released by Germanwatch in association with NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network on the sidelines of COP26 (26th Conference of Parties).

The first three overall positions remain empty as no country performs well enough in all index categories to achieve an overall very high rating.

About Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI):
i.The CCPI is an independent monitoring tool that was Published annually since 2005 for tracking the climate protection performance of 60 countries and the European Union.
ii.The climate protection performance of those countries, which together account for 92% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, is assessed in four categories: GHG Emissions, Renewable Energy, Energy Use and Climate Policy consisting of 14 indicators.
European Union, BBMP partnered on Solid Waste Management project in Bengaluru under NAMA Support Project
.On the lines of circular economy principles, the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has collaborated with the European Union (EU) for a low-carbon Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management system in Bengaluru (Karnataka) under Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) support project ‘Waste solutions for a circular economy in India’.
ii.The project is funded by the EU and the German’s Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
iii.Under this collaboration, BBMP will get technical and financial support in setting up new plants, revamping the existing Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), setting up compost facilities and biomethanation plants.

DRDO, Israel Signs Innovation Agreement for Dual-use Technology
India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) signed a Bilateral innovation agreement (BIA) with Directorate of Defence Research & Development (DDR&D), Ministry of Defence, Israel to promote innovation and research in development of dual-use technologies by startups and Micro-small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of both countries . The BIA was signed by G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence, R&D and Chairman DRDO and Daniel Gold, Head of DDR&D. The development efforts are jointly funded by India’s DRDO and Israel’s DDR&D.

Meta, formerly Facebook has launched ‘Grow Your Business Hub’ & ‘Grow Your Business Playbook’ during the inaugural edition of Grow Your Business Summit, an event focused on the growth agenda of India’s small and medium businesses (SMB).
Grow Your Business Hub:
It is a localised business hub for the micro, small and medium business to find relevant information, tools, and resources curated to provide their business goals based on their growth.
i.Grow Your Business Playbook to inspire and equip early-stage businesses to start their journeys on Meta’s apps was also launched during the event.
ii.This playbook aims to assist the business to set up an offline to online journey and accelerating online sales for small businesses during the COVID-19 era and beyond.
RBI Lifts Restrictions on Diners Club International Limited
he Reserve Bank of India (RBI) lifted restrictions imposed on 23rd April,2021 with immediate effect on credit card issuer Diners Club International Ltd to onboard new customers. RBI restricted Diners Club International Ltd. from on-boarding new domestic customers onto its card network from May 1, 2021 due to non-compliance with RBI on storage of Payment System Data Earlier, RBI has banned – American Express, the 7th largest credit card issuer in India (on 23rd April 2021) and Mastercard, the 2nd largest credit card issuer in India (in July 2021) from enrolling new customers. RBI has not yet lifted their ban.
Note – Diners Club International Ltd is a payment system operator authorised to operate card networks in the country under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (PSS Act).

RBI Launches its First Global Hackathon – HARBINGER 2021
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) organises its 1st global hackathon named ‘HARBINGER 2021 – Innovation for Transformation’ with the theme ‘Smarter Digital Payments’. The hackathon was launched to encourage innovation in the payments system and it includes 4 problem statements to shape the future of the payment systems in India.
Objective: The Hackathon invites participants to identify and enable solutions and/or business models that have the potential to make digital payments accessible to the underprivileged section, enhancing the ease of payments, enriching the user experience while strengthening the security of digital payments and promoting customer protection. Winners in each category of problem statements will get prize money of Rs 40 lakh and Runner-up will get Rs 20 lakh.
Note – Registration for the hackathon was scheduled to start on November 15, 2021.

IOC, UNODC extends collaboration to fight corruption and crime in sport
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland to strengthen the cooperation between the two organisations in fighting crime and to prevent youth crime, violence and drug use through sports. The MoU was signed by the IOC President, Thomas Bach, and UNODC Executive Director, Ghada Waly. The MoU will remain inforce till 2025 The signing of the MoU took place at the side-lines of the fourth edition of the International Forum for Sports Integrity (IFSI) that will bring together 500 stakeholders representing Olympic Movement, intergovernmental agencies, governments, the betting industry and other sectors.

India wins 5 Medals in Inaugural ISSF President’s Cup in Wroclaw, Poland
Indian Shooters have won 5 medals (2 Gold, 2 Silver & 1 Bronze) in the inaugural edition of International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) President’s Cup that was held between 3rd to 10th November 2021 at Wroclaw, Poland.
Manu Bhaker Wins 2 Gold in Mixed Event:
i.Indian Women’s Shooter, Manu Bhaker has won 2 Gold medals in the inaugural ISSF President’s Cup in Mixed team events. She partnered with Turkey’s Ozgur Varlik in the 25m Rapid Fire pistol Mixed Team event to win the Gold Medal. She also partnered with Iran’s Javad Foroughi to win Gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event.

Indian Navy received 4th Scorpene Submarine ‘Vela’ under Project-75
i.The 4th Scorpene submarine of the Project-75, Yard 11878 was delivered to the Indian Navy which will be commissioned as INS (Indian Naval Ship) Vela.
ii.Project-75 includes construction of six submarines of Scorpene design by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai (Maharashtra) in collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France.
iii.Currently, three submarines under Project-75 are functional with Indian Navy viz. INS Karanj, INS Kalvari, and INS Khanderi.

Fumio Kishida Reelected as Prime Minister of Japan
Fumio Kishida leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has been reelected as the Prime Minister(PM) of Japan following the victory of the LDP in the 2021 Parliament election.
The LDP has secured 261 seats in the 465 members lower house exceeding the parliamentary majority of 233 seats. Fumio Kishida will succeed Yoshihide Suga who resigned as PM of Japan in September 2021.

Defence Ministry appoints Vice Admiral R. Hari Kumar as next Chief of Naval Staff
The Defence Ministry appointed Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of Western Naval Command (WNC), as India’s new Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), who will take over the position from the incumbent CNS Admiral Karambir Singh from November 30, 2021. Hari Kumar is presently serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the WNC.
About R Hari Kumar:
i.Hari Kumar was commissioned in the executive branch of Indian Navy in January 1983.
ii.Hari Kumar has commanded various aircraft carriers including- INS Viraat and guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvir, INS Nishank, Missile Corvette and INS Kora.
iii.He was the 1st Vice Chief of Defence Staff of India.

Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) Sheel Vardhan Singh has been appointed as the new Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) DG (Director General) and National Police Academy Director Atul Karwal has been appointed as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) DG .
i. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for both the appointments. Atul Karwal has succeeded IPS officer SN Pradhan, who is currently holding additional charge of NDRF DG.
