India drops to 9th spot in Global Spam Call Tally – 4th Edition of Insights Report by Truecaller

i.UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), New Delhi virtually launched the 2nd edition of “State of the Education Report for India 2020: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)”. ii.This report is an overview of the present capacity for TVET provision through short-term and long-term courses. iii.It has been developed by an experienced team of researchers from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, Maharashtra under the guidance of UNESCO New Delhi. It’s technical and financial partner was New York (United States) based American India Foundation (AIF). iv.Aim of the Report: To support the Government of India (GoI) by acting as a reference tool for enhancing and influencing the policies and programs related to skills development.

WCF, NITI Aayog Partner to provide training to Country’s Children and Youth on Cybersafety

WCF (WNS Cares Foundation), the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of Private firm WNS Global Services has partnered with Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL), an initiative under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog for providing training to India’s children and youth on cybersafety. WCF will provide digital education through its platform CyberSmart.
i.ATL will use CyberSmart platform and digital programs of WCF in its network of around 6, 500 schools to educate students on cybersecurity and other relevant areas.
ii.The volunteers will support ATL to deliver the modules effectively.

i.Federal Bank Ltd entered into an online Rupee remittance tie-up with OrbitRemit Limited.
ii.This partnership will facilitate Non-Resident Indians(NRIs) and small businesses in New Zealand to transfer money to India in a modern, low cost, fast, easy and more reliable way.

ADB Approved US$300 mn Loan for Primary Health Care Program in Urban Areas; $2mn Additional Grant for its Implementation

i.Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved USD 300 million (about Rs 2,200 crore) loan for Strengthening Comprehensive Primary Health Care in Urban Areas Program in India.
ii.In addition to the loan, a $2 million technical assistance grant was also provided from ADB’s Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction to provide technical support for program implementation.
iii.The program involving all levels of governance viz. Central, State, and Municipal will strengthen, upgrade, and increase the number of functional health and wellness centers in 13 states.
iv.The program will support the Ayushman Bharat (the Healthy India initiative) Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWC) and Pradhan Mantri – Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PM-ASBY).

IOC adds Breakdance & 3 other events as Medal Events in Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board added “Breaking” – a competitive form of breakdancing & 3 other sports – Skateboarding, Sport Climbing, and Surfing to Medal Events Program in Olympic Games. Breaking will make its Olympic debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, while 3 other sports will make their olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics to be held in July, 2021 (delayed due to COVID-19). The additional sports were proposed by the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.
i.The sports have been included by IOC to set a new standard for inclusive, gender-balanced and youth-centred games.
ii.The IOC has approved the reduction of certain medal events in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, Paris will have 329 medal events, 10 events less than the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (to be held in 2021)

Indian Cricket Team won the 2020 Dettol T20I series against Australia held in Australia

The Indian Cricket Team won the 3-match Dettol Twenty20 International (T20I) series 2020 against Australia by 2-1. The T20I series is part of India’s Tour of Australia, 2020-21 which consists of 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 3 T20Is & 4 Test matches taking place from November 2020 – January 2021.
Indian All-rounder Hardik Pandya was chosen as the Player of the Series.

MoHFW develops ‘Co-WIN’ – Digital Platform & Mobile App for COVID-19 Vaccination Delivery

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) has developed ‘Co-WIN’ – A Digital Platform & Mobile Application for real-time monitoring of COVID-19 vaccine delivery and recording data. The platform can be used by the people to register themselves for vaccination.
i.The app can also send real-time data of temperature of cold-storage facilities to the main server.
ii.Co-WIN will also help the Government to monitor the entire vaccination process.
iii.Co-WIN app will have 5 modules – administrator, registration, vaccination, beneficiary acknowledgement & report.

CCI Approves Acquisition of AES’s 49% stake in OPGC by OHPC and Certain Assets of the Prestige Group by Affiliates of Blackstone Group Inc.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the following acquisition.
i.Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Limited (OHPC) will acquire 49% equity shares in Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd (OPGC) from AES OPGC Holdings and AES India Private Limited.
ii.The affiliates of Blackstone Group Inc. will acquire certain assets of the Prestige Group

2020 Goldman Environmental Prize Ceremony held Virtually; Paul Sein Twa of Myanmar won in Asia Continent

i.The 2020 Goldman Environmental Prize ceremony was held virtually on November 30, 2020 which recognizes six grassroots environmental activists annually from each of the world’s six continents viz. Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands & Island Nations, North America, and South & Central America. The prize is also known as the “Green Nobel Prize”.
ii.The 2020 ceremony was hosted by actress Sigourney Weaver.
iii.The winners are Chibeze Ezekiel (Ghana), Kristal Ambrose (The Bahamas), Leydy Pech (Mexico), Lucie Pinson (France), Nemonte Nenquimo (Ecuador) and Paul Sein Twa (Myanmar).
