India hosts “Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities, 2018” from 9 November
“Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities, 2018” (GITC) is being organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment here during 9-11 November, 2018.
This year, India is hosting the event in collaboration with Government of Korea and Rehabilitation International (RI).
It propagates implementation of United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) – Article 21 relates to access to information.
18 countries namely, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Mongolia, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, UAE, India and UK – participate in this event.
Supreme Court gave nod for a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh
The new court, which will be the 25th High Court in the country, will start functioning from 1 January 2019 in Amravati.
Presently, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a common High Court situated at Hyderabad. The existing court will from next year be known as the Telangana High Court.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which resulted in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, also has a provision for separate High Courts.
India participates in China’s First International Import Expo
It is the world’s firstimport-themed national-level expo that will feature enterprise and business exhibitions, country pavilions for trade and investment.
Leaders from 18 countries, including Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan participate in the six-day mega event in Shanghai, which is aimed at exhibiting China’s import potential.
12 countries – Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa, Vietnam and the UK are the “Guest of Honour” at the mega business event.
Pakistan-China luxury bus service launched from Lahore to Kashgar
The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Shuja Express together launched the bus service between Pakistan and China to facilitate tourists.
It is part of an initiative to connect the two countries via road under the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Earlier, India lodged strong protests with China and Pakistan over the proposed bus service between the two countries through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan rejected protests by India against the bus service to China.
Launched in 2015, the CPEC is a planned network of roads, railways and energy projects linking China’s resource-rich Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with Pakistan’s strategic Gwadar Port on the Arabian Sea.
The expo is being held amid China’s trade war with the US, which slapped additional tariffs on Chinese goods worth about USD 250 billion, demanding Beijing to bring down the trade deficit amounting to USD 375 billion.
China unveiled ‘Heavenly Palace’ space station, as International Space Station retires in 2024
With a lifespan of roughly 10 years, China’s Tiangong space station, otherwise known as Heavenly Palace is set to become the replacement of the International Space Station, which is due to retire in 2024.
Three astronauts will be permanently stationed in the 60-tonne orbiting lab, which will enable the crew to conduct biological and microgravity research.
The International Space Station (ISS) – a collaboration between the United States, Russia, Canada, Europe and Japan – has been in operation since 1998, but is due to be retired in 2024.
China will then have the only space station in orbit, though it will be much smaller than the ISS which weighs 400 tonnes and is as large as a football pitch.
Brett Lee only bowler with hat-trick in World Cup of both formats
Former Australia pacer Brett Lee is the only bowler to take a hat-trick in both 50-over and T20 World Cups. Lee took a hat-trick in 2003 World Cup against Kenya, becoming the first Australian to take a World Cup hat-trick. In 2007, Lee became the first-ever bowler to take a T20I hat-trick, achieving the feat against Bangladesh in World T20.
49-year-old boxer dies days after knockout in title fight
Italy’s 49-year-old boxer Christian Daghio passed away after spending around a week in a coma at a Bangkok hospital after suffering a knockout defeat in his title match against Thai boxer Don Parueang. “He died as he wanted to die, that is in the ring. He dreamed of fighting until he was 80 years old,” Christian’s brother said

Paytm tied up with 2 govt depts in Karnataka for better payment experience
The two departments of Karnataka government are:

Further, Paytm extended a cashback of 10 percent for up to a maximum of Rs 20 per user on a minimum transaction amount of Rs 200 for payments.

Samsung has unveiled its first-ever foldable smartphone prototype, which, when opened, transforms into a small pocket-sized tablet.
Samsung calls its foldable phone technology the ‘Infinity Flex Display‘.
The device looks like a standard smartphone when closed. It opens like a book to reveal another 7.3-inch display, which would be one of the largest phone screens ever released.
Reserve Bank of India liberalised norms governing external commercial borrowings for infrastructure creation
The modified norms are Reduction in minimum tenor for borrowing through the ECB route, from 5 years to 3 years.
The average maturity requirement for mandatory hedging has been reduced to 5 years from earlier 10 years.
These changes will facilitate infra companies to raise resources overseas.

Ayodhya Deepotsav 2018 enters Guinness Book of World Records: Over 3 lakh diyas lit
A new world record was set as 3,01,152 diyas were lit on the banks of River Sarayu, during Deepostav 2018, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Deepostav 2018 was organised by Uttar Pradesh government on the occasion of Diwali. It has entered the Guinness Book of Records for lighting 3,01,152 earthen lamps.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and South Korean first lady Kim-Jung Sook were present while achieving this feat. They also performed ‘aarti’ with the earthen lamps.
Yogi Adityanath also announced that a new airport will be named after Lord Rama, and a medical college will be named after Raja Dashratha in Uttar Pradesh.

Arunima Sinha, world’s first Indian woman amputee to scale Everest gets honourary doctorate in UK
Arunima Sinha was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Strathclyde of United Kingdom in Glasgow, Scotland.
She has been awarded for her inspirational achievements in mountaineering. She is 30 years old.
In 2013, she became the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest. She is a former Indian national Volleyball player. Her left leg was amputated below the knee after being thrown from a train while resisting a robbery.
Actor Jayant Sawarkar to get Maharashtra government’s Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement award
Marathi actor Jayant Sawarkar will be awarded the Maharashtra government’s Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement award in the field of theatre.

Super 30 founder Anand Kumar honoured with education award ‘Global Education Award’ in Dubai
Mathematician and Super 30 founder Anand Kumar was awarded ‘Global Education Award’.
This was awarded by Malabar Gold & Diamonds’, flagship company of Malabar Group, a leading Indian business conglomerate.
He was honoured for his “pioneering” contributions to the field of education.
His selection was done from a list of 100 names working in the field of education by a 12-member jury.

Retired Gauhati High Court judge Pranoy Kumar Musahary appointed as the first chairperson of Lokayukta in Meghalaya
Justice (Retd) of Gauhati High Court, Pranoy Kumar Musahary, was sworn in as the chairperson of Meghalaya’s first Lokayukta.
Upon appointment, he urged the Conrad Sangma government to speed up the appointment of 4 other members of the Lokayukta.
The Lokayukta is empowered to probe allegations of corruption against public functionaries.
